i have a old ibm 240 thinkpad and would like to install win 2000 but to install all i have is a usb cdrom so when the install inspect my computer part way through it will say there is no mass storage to install from as the cdrom is connected y usb and there would be no drivers so setup can see usb. the thinkpad does not have a floppy drive for me to install third party drivers but i have seen that win 2000 can be installed but how. Thanks in advance for any help.

Never seen that system before, have you checked the BIOS to see if there is an option to boot from USB? Only other way i can think of, is to install over a network, providing the laptop has ethernet.

I would through XP on it...Windows 2000 is not a very good OS.

Whats wrong with 2000? Its NT based just like XP. Chances are he wont have the resources to run XP on there either.
