Here is a link to the HDD I want to get.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136014

And here is the link to the shell/box that I will put the HDD in.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817106098

As u can understand, I need an external HDD. Can you guys please take a look at all these specs, and tell me if this HDD will be compatible with the Shell and with my CPU??? I don't know much about this, so I am totally relying on you.

If u have better suggestions, like maybe a better case or Better HDD please let me know.

Thanks.

USB 2.0 is fine if you've got a 2.5" HDD, but for 3.5" ones, you'd be better off with a FireWire external enclosure.

Apart from that, everything else seems fine.

I have 2 USB 2.0 externals...one an 80GB, and one a 160Gb and both work fine...

I use them for storage only though...no applications are based on them so its all up what you need them for.

So u guys think its safe for me to purcsae this 2 thingz? all the connections are good?...etc

i just dont want spand money and then realize something is not competable or something :(

Ive got USB external drives and they run fine

They'd be running even finer if you had FireWire enclosures.

FireWire vs. USB 2.0 Hard Drive Performance Comparison

Read and write tests to the same IDE hard drive connected using FireWire and then Hi-Speed USB 2.0 show:

Read Test:

* 5000 files (300 MB total) FireWire was 33% faster than USB 2.0
* 160 files (650MB total) FireWire was 70% faster than USB 2.0

Write Test:

* 5000 files (300 MB total) FireWire was 16% faster than USB 2.0
* 160 files (650MB total) FireWire was 48% faster than USB 2.0
