Windows not shutting down

Hi, I have just reloaded windows XP after a small problem. Whilst my last windows Xp did this I was wondering why! After instaling/deleting a program the system in some cases requires restart, well I find that my system shuts down to the 'windows is shuting down' stage and freezes until my intervention using the 'off' switch. Can antone advise why this hapens and is there a cure for it? Thanx a million JimP

if you know the day when the problem started to happen you could alwasy use a system restore.

Kylemann 999, thanx for the wisdom, but if you read my post correctly i stated that i only finished a reload from scratch. but thanx anyway

are you saying you just recently reformatted your computer?.. possible that the installation screwed up.. if that isn't what you're saying i'd check your computer for any suspiscious software..
