Hello

I borrowed a copy of visual basic 6 from a friend, i was looking for a keygen on the internet but it was a .exe file. However being my idiotic self i thought that i might as well run it, as the virus couldn't be THAT bad, and i would most likely find a way to get rid of it. However i cant and im in some real trouble with my computer right now!!!

At first my web browser (firefox included) kepy flashing in the bottom right hand corner, and my computer ran VERY VERY slow. After some looking i noticed that the flashing, was the web browser downloading files! thats a lot of files.

So i headed over to www.trendmicro.com and run their 'housecall' program. This found LOADS of files, on what would have previously been a relatively clean system! So i deleted all the deletable files, but there were about 100 files in yello that i could not delete. Something about a script activation file that was a threat, it said how it allowed someone to activate any piece of code they wished or something. Either way, it scared me!!

Now, i did 'housecall' again this morning and it still found 3 viruses. so i deleted them.

but AVG keeps telling me that it is finding viruses! every minute or so. Ill attatch a screenshot.

Please someone please help! AD-Aware isn't finding anyhting, and im stuck, i have a hullava lot of 3d work on my system, all my school 3d projects, game related 3d projects, 3 in development websites and much more that i cannot afford to lose!!!

please help someone!

did you try quarantining the files? move them to the vault and that should stop it. Deleting files isn't always the best way to get rid of viruses. Moving them to the vault will leave them on your PC, but they won't be able to infect you or cause any harm.

Keygens are almost always detected by virus scanners as viruses/trojans. And most keygens are .exe files- they are simply a program that executes to generate a code. Now, I have to bring up the fact that if you were not doing something illegal- you wouldn't be in this mess in the first place! But, you live and learn.

Head over to www.avast.com and download Avast! Home Edition. Once you download it, install and run the updates. Then reboot and keep tapping F8, and go into safe mode. Scan your computer while in safe mode- this should get rid of most of the viruses. It sounds like this exe you installed is downloading different viruses all the time- so, after you start your virus scan, disconnect your Internet Connection to your computer- and scan, scan, scan. Delete any files that you can, quarantine any files you can't delete. Keep doing this, until you cannot find another virus. You may also want to check your program files, and see what it installed. If you still get virus messages, your system may be so infected that even a repair wont help. If you are sucessful, and you get no more viruses found in safe mode, reboot, and reconnect to the Interent, and head over to Trend Micro again, and run the scan again. If you get stuck in a loop, disconnect the Interent connection, and save any and all data you can. Then prepare to repair/reinstall.

that's the thing with free AV'S, they don't always catch what other paid software does, although i have a last resort solution to finding a nasty one that won't go away. just tkae the jumper in the back of the hhd, make it a slave...put it into the second ide cable as a slave drive. then boot up from another hhd with an OS on it, and scan the virus infected hhd with a different AV than the one that can't delete it.

edit: also AD-aware is a spyware blocker not a virus killer..
