Is there a freeware that will allow me to password protect individual file?

---OR---

How can I make windows limit permission of cetain user on my pc (like delete files) without requiring login?

If your using XP pro then ya can encrypt them. To do this put all the files you wanna protect in a folder, then
1. Select the folder you wish to encrypt.
2. Right-click the folder and click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced button.
4. Check "Encrypt contents to secure data" option.
5. Click Ok.

If you want to set a password for each file, then i think ya will need a third party program like this
http://www.protect-folders.com/

Or ya could do what i do and use ZIP disks, which require a password to access the disk.

im running xp home edition. I just want to make sure that some files/programs (not just folders) cant be opened or uninstalled.

Im not sure if this method will work on Home (been like 5 years) but try this:

Open my computer>tools>folder options>view>UnCheck "use simple file sharing"> OK out. Close my computer and then reopen it. go to the files/folders you want to block and right click>properties. Go to security tab>remove every user except yourself and SYSTEM. This should block other people from accessing the folders/files. Note: This will not work if other people use your account.
