Hey guys, i'm new here, but i have a little knowledge of computers

I have decided to build my own computer so i can have something that pwns, but i dont have to pay for it all up front...

I'm gonna build it by buying piece by piece... until i finally have something

I dont really wanna spend too much, about 100 bucks per major component. THat'll give me a pretty good computer.

Heres some things i'm considering buying, tell me if anything here isn't worht buying
This is what i've come up with some far:
CPU:

HD:

CASE:

PS:

RAM:

any suggestions on other components? I havent decided on them all yet...

SOrry if i sound noobish...

Looks pretty good so far, but I'd like to stress a few things:

First off, you don't have all the necessary parts. You need a motherboard, and if you plan on doing any gaming (besides minesweeper, solitaire, etc) you need a video card. If you don't plan on doing high-end gaming, you need to find a motherboard with integrated graphics.

Second, I think it would be well worth the extra $10 or so to get the Athlon 64 3800+. But a 3700+ will get you by if you don't have the $10; but I'd definitely say to go for it if you can.

Third, I'd invest in a little better of a power supply. Looks like a lot of good reviews, but it's only 430 watts. You may need more than that; it would be good to have around 500.

And fourth, if you can, I'd get DDR 400 (PC3200) RAM instead of DDR 333 (PC2700). If you're not going to be using this for gaming though, you can stick with the cheaper DDR 333 RAM. Maybe some DDR 400 Corsair ValueSelect or something like that would be good.

And no, I'm not trying to criticize every part you have on there :D , I'm just saying what I would get. Plus, the hard drive looks nice. The better RAM and processor aren't completely necessary, but will help out a little. But the PSU, I'd definitely upgrade that. Ask some others for suggestions, I'm not good at finding good cheap reliable PSUs. And just remember that you need a motherboard and a video card too.

Good luck with your build when you decide to do so.

thanks for all the tips! I'll take your advice and spend the extra couple of bucks to get the better ram and cpu.

500 watt ps? Alrighty... out to search for a new one

and of course i knew that i had to get a few more things... i wasn't sure on the graphics card and mobo jsut yet... i'll look around for something with inegrated graphics then

Yeah first i gotta get some money... so far i'm at $110!

ooh is this good?

You said you will be buying piece by piece? I sure hope you dont mean that you'll be buying the parts one by one as you get money. Prices drop all the time, and new components come out.

yeah thats what i mean, buy it as i get the money...

unless you wanna send me a check so i can finish this computer, and might think about maybe paying you back :p

it's not like i'll have all the latest stuff even if i do buy all the pieces up front...

and yeah if prices drop, why is that a bad thing?

so is that a good mobo??

thepiguy, took the words right outta my mouth, i dont feel like restating what he said

plus they are cheaper

and Another thing YOU DO NOT NEED a 500 WATT PSU for this setup.

the 430 Watt you originally picked out will work out just FINE.

If you were to go with SLI graphics in the future, or somthing along those lines then it would be somthing you would Need but you definetly dont need it with this setup

Ohh and that Hard Drive you picked is a great drive i have 3 of them :D

good luck hope this helped

The problem with building over an amount of time is that things move on, and in a months time, let alone a year, your PC can be completely outdated.

I would recommend buying in this order:

HDD
PSU
CASE
OPTICAL DRIVE
MOTHERBOARD, CPU AND RAM (in one go)

hye thanks for all the help! I'm sure that even if i bought all the parts now, my computer would be still be outdated in a few months...

Is there a difference between micro mobo's and normal siZed ones?

mostly just features and room for expansion.

a full size ATX board will give you more room for expansion compared to a MICRO ATX.
