can vista run xp programs?

i got a beta release of vista and for some reason i cant partition my hard drive for vista (im already dual booting xubuntu and xp pro) so i am forced to upgrade, but i dont know wether vista can run xp programs such as steam for all of my games

A lot of it also depends on whether your software is 32bit or 64bit

umm...the 64-bit OS should definitely be able to run 32-bit applications...it just doesn't work the other way around...
