ok, the turions are a lot weaker than the core 2 duo processors, so only if you only plan to do simple things on the computer and have a tight budget should you consider turion x2.

Among core 2 duo laptops the top brands are pretty much the same performance wise, the hp notebook you're looking at is a great notebook, because hp is putting a lot into desinging their notebooks. Acer is the cheaper options, both cost and quality wise. although there may not be something specifically "wrong" with acer laptops, they just dont compare to the great design and quality of asus, toshiba and sony.
however these companies asus, toshiba, and sony are extremely expensive because of their expensive looks and features. SO you are left with a couple of realistic options, hp and dell, i would not go the dell route because although the provide the best options their quality isnt as good as hp's and you just wont have "fun" using the notebook.
the dv6000t that i configured for about $1700 is great except for one thing, the video card 7400 is not really that good at all...and you dont quite have too many options from any other brand in this department.
for example the dell 15 inch intel laptop only ofers up to the 7300 card.
these are all below par.

I would reccommned waiting a little bit untill all the acer and asus core 2 duo laptops are released and available. you wont have to wait too long as all the models are already announced and should be showing up on websites and stores soon. but if you absolutely must purchase a laptop right now, id go for the dv6000t.

edit: ok so i checked the hp dv5000t which is the 15 inch core duo (note core 2 duo) and i configured it for $1420 with amazing features! to be honest i would even skip the dv6000t and get the dv5000t, because you can get a 2.16 ghz core duo processor which performs about the same as a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo processor. and you're getting everything else that comes with the dv6000t. so $1400 would make that 7400 video card look a little better too!

for labtops, i think is best to get intel, since amd produce more heat, and consume more energy.

thnx for the info helped me alot....i customized multiple HP laptops on the site for a great price and with good stuff in it...example: 2GB RAM and everything for only around 1700 like u said...im dnt NEEEEED the laptop like RIGHT NOW but im jus doing my homework and knowing wats good and wats not narrowing down my options....so when do u think the asus and acers will come out wit duo processor chips? i kno u said soon but wondering if u knew a certain date or time frame if nething

also i noticed that the dv6000t customized comes with a 256MB 7400....u think thats better then the 128 that comes with the dv5000???

i dont know the exact time or date, but very soon because the prices on the older core duo notebooks are beginning to fall a little. and asus and acer have already listed the core 2 duo models on their websites.
the dv5000 has a 128 mb 7400 and the dv6000 has a 256 mb 7400, to be honest the memory size does not make a difference in graphics 80% of the time. and the point is that the 7400 itself is insufficient, the 7600 is decent, but with moblie cards like the 7900gtx and the quadro fx2500m the 7400 just says that the company is trying to rip off people.

ahhh got it thnx a lot man u helped me a lot...i hate this computer stuff so hard when u want somethin but u want the best for a good price and so many options!! lol

if you are not an experienced user acer is not the way to go they do a lot of crappy things with their laptops that can be fixed but require knowledge and patience.
ASus will always look better and feel better too.
from the options you have listed i would go for the asus z96j,
reasons:
-acers have more ram BUT it is of a lesser speed, you can always add another gb of ram to the asus laptops (just double check how many memory ports are being used in the asus laptops)
-1680x1050 is a great resolution to have on a laptop, and as far as i've heard acer puts poor quality lcds. you will always get what you pay for, there is a reason why acer and dell are cheaper, and its not because they care about our bank accounts.
-the asus has a 7200rpm hd.

Conclusion, dont go nuts over laptop choices just yet you only have to wait a little bit for core 2 notebooks which will change a lot of things and make these asus notebooks cheaper and even better of a deal!
