Firefox Versus Opera

I use Opera; there's not a whole lot of difference between Firefox and Opera. Opera renders differently, its much better for slower connections as the images don't load first, but still are clickable, etc. etc.

Released in Opera 9, was the widgets feature, which is awesome.

I've used Firefox for a long time, and I just didn't really like it anymore, so I converted to Internet Explorer 7, and now to Opera 9. In terms of security, I have no clue.

But security is overrated, it all depends on the sites you visit; for example underground sites have spyware, adware, viruses, etc. etc.

Never got any viruses in any Browser except IE I hear that Opera is the most secure

Firefox is appalling in my experience - Open-Source just makes the problems worse, IMHO.

I've never tried Opera, but I'd vote for it anyway.

I use IE7 - lightning fast, stable, plenty of features, and you don't need to download a million and one different plugins just to load a PDF or a video like you do with a default Firefox install - everything just works straight off.​

UK has a point. although alot of this has been pretty much opinion based or user reviews, which are inportant, but i suggest you visit some sites to check some spesifics(sp) out. I use all 3, opera, fire fox, and internet explorer 7. they all have their ups and downs for me:

opera: often times seems to miss downloading pictures or something and can be slow

fire fox: seems to perform pretty well but i've had crashing issues when having alot of pages open

internet explorer 7: don't really like the setup too much, but it seems to be quite fast, still in beta version so it can't be a firm desicion yet.

basically thats my view. i don't really have a fav.

about the security thing. security of a browser isn't really that big of a deal. yes IE tends to be more vonerable, but really it's your malware protection that matters (i.e firewall, virus scanner, spyware scanner, etc.)

look up "browser wars" or which "browser is best" things like that in google to have reviews from professionals.

that not opera, thats a user error

opera does not give you spyware/malware. it's the content you visit and the security you have on your computer. browsers do not have spyware/malware protection for your computer, only security for the browser so it doesn't get exploited itself. it will not protect your computer.

I find myself in a command line a lot, so I like the links browser. It's heaven for people with dial up connections as you don't have to load bandwidth consuming pictures. Just the txt.

Firefox is falling victim to it's own success. It use to be a pretty safe browser, as far as spyware / adware and pop ups go as the popularity of it limited the number of coders who wrote stuff for that specific browser. Now that it's really popular seems like it's a much more targeted browser.

Yeah, it's getting too big for its boots, with nothing to show for it.

It really isn't good at all. The "development team" i.e. the community, just throw in endless, poorly programmed, bloaty new features without fixing basic stability issues.

It should not take 300MB+ of RAM with 6 tabs open. That's unacceptable.

Thats right, it "should" be the priority, but its not..
And im sure ( dont quote me) that Firefox have said time and time again (to people complaining about the crash's/the mem leaks,

what kind of tabs are you opening? I regularly have 10-15 tabs open on a system with 256 MB of RAM and it runs smooth as silk. Using the right extension, such as greasemonkey scripts, Adblock, and NoScript will make browsing much cleaner, faster, and safer.

I personally like both but if I had a choice, I would take Firefox. I like it's interface more than Opera.

Another thing about Opera, I heard it is the fastest browser. But I am not sure if it is true.

And about IE7, I have the Release Candidate 1. I like it's new user interface and some of the extras it has but I am not sure if I would make it my browser of choice.

My order of preferance:

1- Firefox

2- IE7

3- Opera
