Yeah, Merom is the mobile version for the Core 2 Duo line. Kentsfield is the quad-core.

Is the Kentsfield a true quad-core (i.e. four cores on a single die)? Or is it the Presler style quad-core (i.e. two dual-cores that have incredibly high latency)?

WRONG! YOU ARE WRONG. Dell laptops are some of the best gaming laptops that i have EVER used. I would only recommend Dell, unless you have money to blow, or you have a money tree in your backyard.
