CD/DVD drive problem

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion laptop and it has a CD/DVD combo that reads and writes both. Basically, the drive can read and write CDs just fine; however, it cannot read any DVD that the computer itself writes. It can read DVD movies or other peoples DVD that they burn, but the ones that I burn cannot be read by any computer or DVD player. I've tried writing both data DVDs and actual movie DVDs, and my computer cannot read either. It does write the data onto the DVD, it just cannot read the data. Its still under warranty I believe so I could send it back and get a new drive, but if the problem is something that can be fixed I'd like to avoid the hassle of sending it back.
Thanks

Well, I ha dproblems with this on a similar burner. It seems that the problem comes from the burning mechanism being defective inside. Mine, would corrupt any given data.

Have you tried both DVD-R and DVD+R (or are you using RW, if so try using R)

If all of these have failed, look into the warranty.
