Intel Pentium D 950 Presler 800MHz FSB 2 x 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Dual Core Processor

OR

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor

yea i noticed that as well but the amd has a faster FSB and support for faster memory chips. i believe the intel lg775 MBs only handle ddr2 533 and the amd does ddr2 800

Get the AMD, it will performe much better than the Pentium D, or get a Core 2 Duo, like the E6400 it will perform better than both. But get the AMD if you only have those 2 as your option.

The C2D chips have 1066 FSB and the RAM requirements are DDR2-533/667/800/1066 (obviously this all depends on the MoBo)

Any motherboard will support DDR-1066, but it will run only if the divider allows it to. I would get the Core 2 Duo E6400, it cant be that much more than a PD 940.

The dual core works well with most motherboards aswell, although the cache is better on the pd 90. It depends how long your pc is working for. Are you constantly using the pc or is it just genrally for normal stuff

Pentium D is dead...........well at least not until later this year (December 2006-RIP). Intel Pentium D, the first of dual cores including 830, 840, 930 and 940 have the target notification date of termination as early as this month and its end of life scheduled for October. Pentium D 805 will live until December 2006. Extreme Editions will probably retire early 2007 (1st Quarter).

All Pentium line with the exception of the Pentium M and Conroe will continue because of its success. Net Burst is officially dead.
