Buying a New Computer.

well i see where you're going but, alot of the times, computer parts are very... iffy in that department. there are things that are plain not worth it, things that are 'the best bang for your buck', and things that are top notch highest quality items. 500 dollar RAM truly is not nessecary. regardless of it's impressive timings for ddr2 ram, it just seems wasteful to me since right now all you'll be seeing is benchmark changes since 2 gigs of value ram can tackle the most demanding games available right now.

Ok, I think I understand what you're saying, but for 3000$+ I'm expecting to be able to run "the most demanding games" on it fairly easily and on high graphical settings.

Back to the point now, can someone please suggest another custom rig?

totals out to around 2800 dollars leaving 200 dollars for case of your choice and optical drives, which i didn't bother to pick out. i'm hoping i didn't leave out anything. this is before mail in rebates.

Daut... the best way to explain the Motherboard is... if the CPU is the brain of the computer, the Motherboard is the Central Nervous System - everything gets plugged into and it transports all the signals and processes throughout the computer.

So the motherboard basically allows all the parts in the computer to communicate with each other?

Video Card- Are you sure that card is the X1900XTX? It doesn't states that and to quote one of the reviewers: "This card along with an ATI X1900XTX".

Soundcard- Will this sound card be good for all the new games and such?

Hard drive- I heard the hard drive can sometimes be the bottleneck in a strong computer as it's the only 'mechanical' part. Is this hard drive fast on top of having such a big storage space? (I think my son will like the 500GB of HD space  )

Now, I'm sorry if I'm being really picky or nosy it's just that I want to get the best out of my money.

Thanks again.

crossfire is the innovation by ati of linking two cards together, it's similar to nvidia's sli setup. i don't pay much attention to ati as my budget isn't as vast as yours so i tend to stick with middle end nvidia cards. i was however, under the assumption, in order to run crossfire, you will require the 'crossfire edition' x1900s. I'm relatively certain they perform on par with the xtx, i'm not 100% though.
soundcard, yeah that'll be good for new games, i mean.. it's just a dedicated sound board that relieves the motherboard of using it's processing power on onboard sound. i never understood sound quality but that should be fine. i use a 30 dollar sound card and i'm content with the results.
that hard drive is running 3.0gb/s so it should perform very well with the build you're planning. if you are not convinced you could look into hdds with perpendicular recording or higher rpms.. 10k/15k.
