Possible RAM conflict?

Just took 512MB of corsair xms pc3200 c2 out of my old computer and put it in a motherboard I got from novatech, along with the 512 that came with said motherboard. However, its taking longer to boot windows and is still only detecting 512 in the system menu. I put the corsair in slot 1 of 4 (which the novatech was previously in - this has been subsequently moved to slot 2 of 4)
Does anyone know a reason/cure for this? Is it elemantary (being windows just doesn't see it) or is it not being used.

well what type of ram was the original in that pc?

same as that except 3500 cpu.

Ram is -
Dual channel, unbuffered, 1.8V DDR 400 (4) 184-pin DIMM sockets, max 4GB
