New Computer

Hey there people, a couple of days ago while looking for a new rig I saw a computer add in a newspaper and my friend recommended me to come here to get some advice about the rig. I already have a good 19" CRT screen which goes up to 2048x1536 and this rig doesn't include a monitor.
My budget is 10,000NIS / 2280$ + I have coupons worth 600NIS / 140$ for that store so my Final Budget: 10,600NIS / 2420$.

Here's how it looked like at the news paper:
CPU: Amd Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000 BOX AM2
MotherBoard: Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 nForce 590 AM2
Video Card: eVGA GeForce 7900GTX SUPERCLOCKEDâ„¢ 512MB PCI-E
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Value 24 bit 7.1
Memory: OCZ PC2-6400 800Mhz DDR2 2GB Gold XTC Dual Kit 5-5-5-12
Hard Disk: Maxtor 250GB 7200 16MB x2 (500GB Total)
Mouse: Logitech® G7 Laser Cordless
Keyboard: Logitech® G15 Gaming Keyboard
DVD +/- RW: LG GSA-H20® LightScribe Retail
Floppy: Sony Floppy Drive 1.44
Cost: 9199.99NIS / About 2100$

After I've been to a couple of sites and I got reccomendations from the people there, I changed the computer, the price went up a bit though:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz 4Mb Cache
Motherboard: DFI INFINITY 975X Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
Video Card: Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 1GB PCI-e GV-3D1-7950-RH
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Value 24 bit 7.1
Memory: OCZ PC2-6400 800Mhz DDR2 2GB Gold XTC Dual Kit 5-5-5-12
Hard Disk: Maxtor 250GB 7200 16MB x2 (500GB Total)
Mouse: Logitech® G7 Laser Cordless
Keyboard: Logitech® G15 Gaming Keyboard
DVD +/- RW: LG GSA-H20® LightScribe Retail
Floppy: Sony Floppy Drive 1.44
Price: 9819.99NIS / 2240$

I got the impression that the second rig is by far better then the first one. People told me that the Conroe E6600 is much better then the AMD 5000 AM2 and the 7950GX2 is better then the 7900GTX and it also produces less heat, so what do you guys think, do you agree will all this? Can anyone recommend of something else to change?

I'm paying a pretty big price for this rig so I prefer to be nosey. :)

Re: בבב

Can a moderator please change the title to 'A New Computer (?)'?
I don't know why it's showing those weird signs...

Re: בבב

Yeah, the second rig is better. I say go for it! But, I would see into geting a new monitor too, you don't want a CRT with a rig like that... go LCD.

Re: בבב

I would definately change the RAM to something faster. At least PC-6400 4-5-4 or 4-4-4.

Re: בבב

From what I understand CRTs are much better, unless you have like 1000$ to spend on an LCD.

well crt's are still better, and will probably always be a little better. But with a good lcd monitor it won't be much worse, and it's going to be a lot easier to move it around, and it's not going to take so much space.
*staring at my massive 21" crt*

But if u don't feel that u need a new monitor then there is no point in getting one, atleast I am very happy with my crt monitor and don't have any plans on getting a lcd monitor in a while.

Re: בבב

i like the first rig, if you are going to be gaming...

Re: בבב

LCD monitors have caught up, and are just as good as CRTs.

If your going to get a new monitor, I would definitely recommend getting an LCD :)

The second rig is definitely better - especially for gaming :)

The 7950GX2 is a nice card, but it does suffer a lot from overheating.

Re: בבב

Yes, I'm going for gaming mostly.
Why do you think the first one is better?

From what I read at other sites and from what people told me the E6600 is by FAR better then even the FX60/FX62 let alone the 5000 AM2. The GF7950GX2 is also supposedly better then the GF7900GTX, as shown in various comparisons I found over the internet. (It also said that the 7950GX2 produces less heat then the 7900GTX...)

The rig I'm getting has this- OCZ PC2-6400 800Mhz DDR2 2GB Gold XTC Dual Kit 5-5-5-12 And from what it seems those numbers are bigger. :p

800MHz Ram makes me smile. :D
