Advice for building new computer

For the first time I have decided to move away from prebuilt overpriced dell systems to try to build something for myself. I have done a lot of reading and consulted 2 computer savvy friends to help me make decisions for all of the parts. I am planning on buying most of my parts now and then ordering another shipment of the last few in a couple weeks. I also have a friend who is experienced at building computers who will help me put it together when I get all the parts.

Basically I am just looking for general advice as to whether everything looks compatable and should run smoothly. As long as nothing is a terrible choice that sticks out like a sore thumb, I won't make any changes. This will be my computer for general use in college, including a lot of gaming.

Other parts not on the list that I will purchase later:
E6600 processor (when I can find it for a good price)
some type of front bay (fan control, possibly LCD display for fan speed and temerature readings)

Keyboard, mouse, mousepad, headphones, speakers are all taken care of.

Advice? Am I missing anything important?

WOW. Nice rig ;) :D
Excellent for gaming. Everything looks pretty good but I would probabley
suggest a better PSU with more Wattage, probabley the one I have, OCZ GameXStream 700Watt version. Cost around $160. You never want to skimp on the PSU as it is one of the most important components in a computer.

Only thing I see missing is a legal copy of windows ;) :D
But I won't talk about that here. DO what ever you want :)
Unless you are using Linux.

Good luck, have fun, and enjoy your new computer!
And welcome to Computerforums man!

Looking good :)

Power supply wattage is perfect - don't go over the top, for example 500W is recommended to be able to put two 7950GX2s in SLI :p If you have that much money, definitely get a Seasonic S12-600, they are known as the most stable and efficient power supplies on the market and will last you for a very long time.

For a good fan controller, I have the Akasa Fan Controller Pro with four fan speed controls and a LCD display with fan speed monitoring and 4 temperature probe monitoring - it is excellent!

Have you got a monitor sorted?

The supported PSU's for Quad SLI are from 700W-1000W.

that rig should be able to blow every game out of the water at max resultion and at max settings wow that heatsink is a monster! make sure you take pictures of what it looks like inside whne you have it on and hten tell us the temps,

OK, for the CPU, the E6600 will stay put at $316. It's not that expensive.
The LCd display and all these gadgets are nice, but they are optional.

Besides that, the system will fly.

That's a Nice screen....*drools

I understand it will "stay put" at $316, the problem is finding one in stock from a reliable website that hasn't marked them up in the 400s, heh. I haven't looked around in a couple days, though.
