Yeah, it's very strong and sturdy. Not in the least bit flimsy. The frame is all steel, with the side panels being a dense plastic sandwiched between two aluminum panels.

I use onboard sound, Nvidia Soundstorm, but it seems most like the Creative Audigy2 ZS or X-FI XtremeMusic 7.1 which runs about $120 USD.
