nVidia

get dual 6600gt's or 6800's

and get a better card when dx10 comes out.

Why do you keep saying that? nVIDIA's G80 should be out by Q4 of this year and ATI's R600 by Q4 2006 or Q1 2007. Becides, DirectX 10 could be pure crap for all we know. Remember when DirectX 8 was being replaced by 9.0? DirectX 9.0 sucked so much that even DirectX 8 offered superior performance. So you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch.

Wait, wouldn't two SLI 7600 GT's run better than a 7900 GT, seeing that they cost around the same amount?

They will, but it's not very smart for future expansion. You might as well buy one 7900 GT and save up for the other one then run them in SLI. It's like running two 6600 GT's in SLI. It's equivalent to the 6800 Ultra, but costs more.

Ah..... I see.

*rethinks vid card set up*

Edit: Alright, I'll go with the 512mb 7900 GT.

My only hesitation was that I was hoping to get the best performance now so that I wouldn't have to upgrade later.

But I guess it's smarter to think ahead and go with a single card now so I can SLI another one later. Is there a significant difference between the performance of a single 512mb 7900 GT and dual 256mb 7600's?

get 2x1 GB its faster than 4x512 especially for DDR2. If you have the money get some Corsair 6400C3 or 8500C5 :D I have no idea who has that much money for RAM. hahah. Other good RAM is the G.Skill 6400 ones with black heatspreaders.
