No Sound

Make sure your speakers are plugged into their respective slots on your mobo. Plugging a rear left/right speaker into a center subwoofer will definatly not give you sound. And try a pair of headphones.

I am using headphones. Plugged into the headphone jack in the back of the case. They're directly connected tot he mobo, so it can't be a hradware problem, can it.

Maybe. Try the headphones in a cd player to make sure its not the headphones. And if they work on something else then you're headphone jack is probly broken. And if thats the case, a dedicated sound card should fix it and not take up your CPU for audio work to boot!

Even a cheap Creative Sound Blaster Live would beat what you had...

Yeah, nice sound cards don't cost much anymore, they used to be really expensive, especially when the first PCI sound cards came out. But now, they are really affordable. Try to get a nice Sound Blaster, that should take care of all your problems, and like Kage said, it beats the onboard.
