Sometimes... no, sometimes is the wrong word. Half the time, when I hit the start button, and launch an application... the start button, as well as the rest of the task bar, freezes. It'll stay from anywhere from 1-5 minutes, and then at the end of the freeze, will promptly launch the application. Any pointers?

Whats ur specs on ur computer? Could be ram, cpu, hdd, or too many programs running in the background.

x2 3.4ghz Intel Xeon, non dual-core
4GB RAM, with about half a gig taken up in background processes
400GB 7200RPM hdd, with half of the capacity left
Around 40 processes running in the background

What?

Are you serious? Thats a bit too much. Should be maybe like 300-400 for idle. Right now im at like 473mb and ive had my computer on for a few days, been browsing the internet, downloading keygens, playing guildwars etc.

So, you might wanna clean your startmenu, and then have spybot do some cleaning with its ''tools'' section.

Sorry, 2GB RAM.

I have run all the AV software there is :p

have you tried a check for malware? that just doesn't make sense that it would freeze like that. Your computer is plenty fast...
are there any unrecognized processes or programs running? try getting rid of those and see if that works. Also try running HiJackThis, when my computer gets slow that's what I do and it works.

I ran HiJackThis, Avira, SpyBot: Search and Destroy, Counterspy, ZoneLabs Anti-Spyware, Spysweeper, Ad-Aware SE...

...and Arrizx, looks like my SpyBot version is really out of date. :p

I dont think its outdated, just you need to run it for an advanced user. I forget how to enable that though. Sorry :(

Oh, never mind... I was on simple mode. I know how to switch.
