New Build, what do you think?

Yeah, now that I think of it, I do remember SP2 solving the problem. I wasn't sure, and wasn't going to post it without knowing.

Don't buy till July 24th.

Why not? will prices go down or something? I was thinking I'd buy it next week but I'd be happy to hear why you wouldn't recommend buying it till then.

Thanks,
Jake

Yea thanks for the suggestions guys, I am going to wait till at least July 24th. I am going to buy the monitor and some small accessories now, but I will wait with the rest. I am also going to wait to see if all the hype about the Conroe is true, if it is I might just go with an Intel system. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks,
Jake

From what I have been hearing thats a very real possiblity for me. I'll wait until I see thep prices on newegg.

actually, Conroe prices are VERY close to MSRP. Motherboards are already out like the P5WDH :D it goes for around 230ish USD. Very good board, handles high HTT very well and uses Intel's flagship 975x. You can preorder Conroe right now. Some vendors allow you to. And just to tell you, Conroe has set records in a lot of 3D benchmarks ;)

Could you post a site where i could pre order a conroe mobo and processor? or at least look at the prices and possibilities?

Thanks,
Jake

Rippy, in the U.S. or UK? I found a UK retailer (called OCUK) allowing you to preorder. Here are their prices:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Intel_Pentium_Core_Duo2.html

Intel Pentium Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.86GHz
Price: £134.95 (£158.57 Including VAT at 17.5%)
Intel Pentium Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.13GHz
Price: £164.95 (£193.82 Including VAT at 17.5%)
Intel Pentium Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz
Price: £224.95 (£264.32 Including VAT at 17.5%)
Intel Pentium Core 2 DUO E6700 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.67GHz
Price: £374.95 (£440.57 Including VAT at 17.5%)
Intel Pentium Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.93GHz
Price: £689.95 (£810.69 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Wait a minute, if you are in the U.S., you are in luck. Buy.com is taking preorders for the conroe too: here's a link, found this in another forum:

i would go for an intel build and get the 2.66GHz conroe which is a lower end cpu but it outperforms the amd fx-60
