How hot should YOUR CPU get?

Ive seen mine at 80C, but I set it to switch off at 75C, good information there, this should be a sticky.

woooow, a lot of those temps are waaaay off. A64s under 65*C? Who are you kidding? I wouldnt let ANY 90nm A64 over 50*C or any 90/65nm P4 over 55*C. Just my 0.02. Manufacturers say its fine up to 70*C or something crazy like that. It will survive, but not for a very long time. Having your processor run up to 70*C is NOT ideal.

I have an Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHZ socket 478 Prescott 1 MB L2 cache.

On my current mobo after cleaning fan and correctly applying antec sliver thermal paste I get 33 degrees celsius. Before when I had a dirty fan heatsink combo and the thermal paste was applied incorrectly, preload was around 60 C, during load it could reach up to 84 C. Scary.

But it performs the same cool at 33 C or hot at 70 C. So I think the only difference is how long you want the processor to live. It won't go long burning at 80 C.
