If I replace my mobo, what else do I need to replace

I think ur old cpu would be a 478 pin and if u were to change ur mobo to pci express i dont think u can buy a board with that slot. you would need to get a 775 or 939 pin mobo aswell a new cpu that gose in the slot

If you got a new mobo, you would need a new processor, as the sockets have changed. But now most mobos have went to 24-pin power supplys, so you would either need a new PSU or a 20-pin to 24-pin adapter. The RAM might change, depending on whether or not the slots change. But that should be all that changes.

Thanks again for the quick responses guys, that leaves me with one more question. If I do replace my Mobo and processor, will I need to reformat my hard drive or anything like that? Or will I be able to plug and go. I don't have two hard drives to back everything up and I really don't wanna lose everything I have on my hard drive now.

Jake,

It should just be plug and play. You will need to configure the BIOS and maybe install drivers in Windows, but no format is necessary.
