would it be possible to create a new partiton on my hd, install vista beta onto that when when i decide to get rid of it just format that partition? thanks

Yep, the best program to use is Partition Magic, this way you dont have to delete your xp..And then you can just dual boot.

ive been meaning to do that to, i have vista downloaded and the partition ready i just havent bothered to install it yet lol

Yeah, it would be fine, I would like to do this with Linux, haven't got round to it yet. How big is your HDD, maybe we can give you some guidelines on how to partition it (size wise)..

200 gb, would partition magic work as it is only a demo, also if i installed office 2007 beta, would that delete my current 2003 office

Nope, you cant use the trial, but there are other way to get it , not so sure about the other questions, but if I had to take a guess, I would say yes..
