There are no specific stats for Pentium 4 CPU's as P4's have an ability to slow themselves down when they are getting too hot and thus, in theory they should never be able to burn themselves out. To get specifics consult Intel's specifications for your particular model.

Intel Pentium M (notebooks) 100°C

Intel Pentium D 820 (2.8Ghz) 63°C
Intel Pentium D 830 & 840 (3.0 - 3.2Ghz) 69.8°C

Intel Pentium Pro
Intel Pentium Pro. 256 or 512K L2 Cache 85°C
Intel Pentium Pro. 1MB L2 Cache 80°C

Mines gotten close once before...

New heatsink/fan though shortly, yay :D

Useful information there :)

u saying my cpu should be that. than why at 60c my mouse starts laggin and my computer restarts.. I checked the BIOS and non of the options are on to make it restart or down clock the cpu. meh I got higher with Celeron 2.2 at 87c :D

I guess it depends on the temperature around the CPU too somehow.

So its not just the core, but the motherboard also has to be able to support a CPU that hot, which might be stressing at high temperatures itself since heat from the CPU would leak onto other parts.

Most CPUs idealy shouldn't reach half of what they are capable of. My CPU can operate at 60 C. However i"d never ever let it get that high. New heatskin and fan normally fixes it.

recon16, do you have any info on the Intel Pentium D940 3.2GHz?

I installed a D940 processor last week and have not overclocked my system.

I monitor temperatures on my system with SpeedFan. The temperature ranges logged at idle and under loads:

Asus 5plp-le mother board 32C - 42C
D940 processor 46C - 50C
Nvidia GeForce 7000LE GPU 45 - 60 (replcing with ATI X1900 next week)

I used Arctic Silver Creamique as thermal grease between processor and heat sink after removing heat pad from sink.

What is you opinion regarding these temps?

Thank you.

That seems alright to me. Its definietly under the limits for a Pentium CPU.

How many fans do you have running on your case?

Whats your room temperature usually?
