I just bought a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router with a 4-port switch to replace my old router that went out. When i plug my laptop in to the router it reconize the network but i can not get on the eneternet. i have already pluged in the modem right and everything. i dont if the laptop does want to comunicate with the computer. Can some one help?

Have you went into the router setttings?

(192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1)

First off we need more info

What kinda internet connection are you on? Cable or DSL?

For DSL you have to enter a username and password into the router config to be able to connect to the internet.

If you're using a cable connection, power off the modem, and then the router. Power up the modem, wait until it fully comes up, then power up your router. You should be able to connect- if you have XP on the machines in question.

Like DJ-CHRIS said, if you're using a DSL modem, you have to get into the router and setup the username and password, and enable "keep alive" to stay connected to the Internet.
