getting new RAM

I have 1 gig of dual channel RAM right now, i'm thinking of upgrading to 2 gigs. what would show a better performance? 4x512s of value ram or 2x1gigs of performance RAM (XMS or some OCZ RAM).
the timings on the value RAM are 2.5-3-3-8 corsair.

Go with 2x1Gig sticks. As for which brand I dont have a good answer for ya. I have 2x512 OCZ platinum rev2's in my system and I love them. OCZ is a very good company. However the XMS are also extremely good. Hopefully someone else can help you with that.

2x1G is good, but if one of them dies it kinda sucks... 4x512MB you can always replace a stick or two

I've always been under the impression that there would be a performance decrease with 4 sticks compared to 2. I could be wrong though.

2X1 GB Mushkin Redlines, OCZ PC4000 EB are the best to get.
