hey guys, im thinkin of making a new build and thinkin that i might want a dual processor system. anyone can link me to some good motherboards that support dual processors?

depends on what brand you want. AMD or Intel, and if you want AMD do you want to use the X2 or the AM2 line of processors?

there was one motherboard i found, but i twas like 225-250, and i dont want to spend that much

You cant use any A64 or 1xx opterons in a dually. Why? Because they only have one HTT link between them. In a dually setup you need 2 for two processors, 4 for four and so on. Those are more aimed toward workstations and servers, so they are higher priced because of binning and stability testing.

i thought the opteron 142 (940) can support dual cpu mobos?

no, it cant. Only 2xx 4xx and 8xx series can run SMP.

ohhh. so if i wanted to build a system with two single processors instead of one dual, what would i need to do for that? becuase i was just reading this site that compared dual processors to two single processors.

ohh wait, i think i might get what you're saying. but can you give me an example of some processors that have two HTT links?
