Intel vs Intel

um, not sure that that would fit, as the prescott p4 3.0ghz is socket 775, and that one u showed us is socket 478, but the second one is better...

To use the core duo, you need the AOpen 975x board that uses a 479 pin socket. It is NOT compatable with LGA775

Hold, my P4 is S478 and this one is S478
The mobo is P4S800D-X and it is flashed to latest BIOS.

If you current Pentium 4 is Socket 775 it won't be compatible. Even if you have a Socket 478 motherboard, it won't fit because of the different pin layouts. You need the AOpen motherboard that Ownage told you about.

do not get confused with 478 for Northwoods and 478 with Core Duos. Its a different pin out. Intel moved one pin on the Core Duo so it WONT be compatible with the old 8xx chipsets. The ONLY board that i know that supports Core Duo for desktops is the AOpen 975x board. It comes with a premium though.
