games crashing easily

ever since i wiped my hard drive (and reinstalled windows), my games crash when i do certain things like importing a custom spray (in counter strike source)
there is no error message or anything it just quits and does nothing

Possibly GPU overheating, I don't think it has to do anything with your reformating. I highly doubt that, possibly a virus of a program you DLed. Ram could be an issue how long ahve you owned PC.

ive had the comp since march, i have a gig of ram and its 2 512 sticks so i should be fine if one dies, but none have died, its reasonably cool in my computer do you know of any programs that would moniter my temperatures?

Look on google for a program called speedfan and that monitors your temprature and even controlls it of you want it to also does the computer fully freeze,like you have to restart it for it to respond or does it just quit back to windows?
