Wireless Routers

Hello all. Long time no see. You guys have been so helpful before, i'm sure you will be able to help me. I have a cable modem downstairs, and my room is located about 50-60 feet away from some three year old D-Link wireless router. I am using two extension USB 2.0 cables to get my D-Link staelliteto the landing near the stairs, but this form of connection most recently has been dangerously slow, less then 1.0 kbps, and very inconsistent. I want to be able to play Battlefield 2 and CS without a high ping and/or disconnection rate. So really, I want a strong wireless router that can send data anywhere in my house (two stories). Can anyone reccomend a good router for gaming/P2P (preferably D-Link, since I already own a few satellites of theirs.)

Try getting this one. It extends the range of your network since you are experiencing weak signals in certain areas. There are also routers that have speedboosters too.

yes, it extends the range, but what about the other side, it still has to send the signal back the same distance, right? and if i understand this right, it doesnt do that properly.

I'm thinking if the repeater can extend the signal to a greater distance, the wireless adapter on the PC should be able to detect the extended signal range assumming that the network devices used, support 802.11b or 802.11g. Because the signal strength has increased to a greater field, I believe the existing USB adapter should be able to pick it up ok.

You can always setup another access point upstairs, but I don't think you will need it. This may be useful as it acts as a repeater and an access point for weak network signals:

Wait, so how effective are wireless extenders... it seems kind of excessive to have an extender on such a weak router. Also, would my D-Link satellite pick-up thingy be able to pick up a Linksys broadcast, if I wanted it to do so? Thanks.

I never used one before, but it acts as a repeater so I'm assuming it will be pretty effective. I think as long as your router and networking devices are using the same wireless protocol, it should be able to communicate with each other even regardless of the manufacturer. What are these satellites you're referring too? Can you provide a link to that product?

I am no expert but i can share with you my experiences. I recently purchased a wireless router being kind of skeptic because i didnt believe non-wired internet could give me fast connection. It's false with what i bought, it worked out perfect and all of it was D-link. I get great connection anywhere in my house. Here are the links, hope i help you out.
