Installing OS after Reformat

Okay, I have a computer I want to reformat. My problem is that I don't know if I have to buy a new OS, in this case, Windows XP Home Edition. Do I have to buy a new OS from a store, or can I just use any other CD?

if you have the Instillation discs you should be able to use it... as long as you still have the key

Problem is that it didn't come with a disk. It came already installed. It's a dell store-bought computer.

Then you would need to buy yourself a disc or borrow it from friend if you have a legal license. Is there a license sticker on the side of your computer case? It would have serial number and be shiney

Wait, i have a utility called System Information. When I click on my operating system, it gives me a serial number. Do I use that number when I install the OS? I have a friend who is lending me his Windows XP Home Edition disk.

yes, write down that serial, and use it with the installation cd.
