Just because someone had a bad experience with Norton doesn't automatically make it bad software. I've used Norton since the mid 90's and haven't had any major problems at all. I even ran it on a network back when I was in Utah with 4 different computers. No problems there. I use Norton now on my laptop and my regular desktop with no problems at all. As long as you don't use any other antivirus programs together with Norton, be sure to schedule or perform manual LiveUpdates on a consistent basis, and run scans, everything should be just fine. Don't download attachments from people you don't know. I have two firewall software and two different antispyware software working alongside with Norton. Again, I have no problems at all. I do everything on my PC and it's loaded with all the major softwares out there including all major Adobe products, Macromedia, Office 2003, four graphic intensive games, and a mess of smaller programs like FTP, Roxio, Nero, ResumeMaker, Hallmark, etc, etc. It's loaded basically.
I'm curious as to why you say "stay away from Norton". Could you enlighten us as to why you say that? The reason why I'm curious to know what's wrong with Norton is because most people and friends of mine all use Norton Internet Security or just the Norton Antivirus software. I'm the one that recommended those products to them. They love it and they too, haven't had any problems yet. Perhaps it was the way your system was configured? I heard it may have issues with 64-bit OS, but I'm sure Norton has a 64-bit counter for 64-bit XP.
