I have had enough of my bullsh!t AXP 2700, I NEED a new computer!

So the opteron is more money, but is also 1.8 ghz and the 3200 is 2.0 ghz.

So I am not sure of what one to get. Also, AM2 is due out this month, should I wait to purchase untill then, do you think that the price might drop a bit?

Thanks for all of ur info!

I am gonna go and pick out the rest of the parts now :)

Prices should drop soon... I suspect the Athlon's better for gamming, Opteron for windows/workstation type crap. Each probably have their ups and downs.

If you get a good stepping and the rest of your components are good enough the 144's can hit 2.8ghz on air. Although that is a good stepping, also you will need a good motherboard for the opteron because of the 9x multiplier you will need a high FSB. If you aren't really into overclocking then just go with the Athlon.

Get the Athlon, you will get farther with it. The 10x multiplier will get you closer to 3Ghz than the 144's 9x. But if you can get a 146, that would be the best, 1MB cache and a 10x multiplier. Im pretty sure its not much of a price difference either. And opterons are just higher binned San Diego's ;)

I am looking for a pretty good multitasker. And I am a gamer, but, I am perfectly happy playing games at medium settings.

I do like to overclock, but I am not a really really advanced overclocker, I have only oc my processor.

So...I am still not sure on what to get.

Also, what does everybody think about the prices dropping after the am2 launch?

With that motherboard I would go with the athlon. I doubt that motherboard is going to do 300+ fsb which is what you would need for the 144. That memory is pretty decent. I got mine at 250mhz 3-3-3-8 stable. For the price though go with the crucial ballitsix. I have seen people get up to 300mhz with it. Not bad for a fairly cheap kit.

Hey, language, language.

Anyway, if you don't need a server CPU, don't get it. It's not meant for gaming. I've heard that Intel will release a new chip, that is supposedly supposed to perform, if not over perform AMD's current chips. Ownange, I'll be looking to you. This guy knows his stuff when it comes to processors, I haven't been keeping up on the latest news. What sort of multitasking will you be doing?
