What could be causing this?

I had this same problem a few weeks ago, try reinstalling your graphics card drivers with the most current update for them, and see if that helps. Thats what i did and havent had a problem with it since.

How/where do I get the new drivers to reinstall or what? Aaahhhh sorry for all the dumb questions but this got me so frustrated...

If you have an ATI video card, I suggest you install the 6.3 Cataylst drivers. Several people have had some issues with the newer 6.4 drivers. Basically all you have to do is uninstall your old drivers either from hardware manager or the add/remove program list, download new drivers and install. I've read up on the ATI website that you have to delete some registry keys after uinstalling the old drivers to totally get rid of the old driver set, then reinstall new drivers. Anyways hope it helps!

i think this is when u can say ur computer "crashed". it happens when the mobo, cpu, ram , sometimes the video card are not stable or bad quality.

when was the last time u cleaned the inside of the computer to get rid of all the dust? i helped a friend with that recently because her cpu was running at over 100C yep thats not farenheight, after clearing it all out it went way down and is now in the safe zone of 50-60C
