This file called infected.dat and pending.dat have just appeared on my c drive for no reason are these files viruses I have scanned aleady and av says they aren't infected.

they are probably used by the antivirus
i wouldnt delete them

Ya but these files just showed up today and I have used the same av for years

its probably from an update in the system. to test this... copy the files into a secure folder... delete the ones in question try the antivirus, if it crashes or gets an error you know that those are for it. if not delete the backups. if so, put the originals back

I tried what you said and there's no crash, and it runs normal.
