Haha, check out this site:

"Techno basics. “Harddisko” is an installation piece dealing with raw computer sounds. Rhythmic noises are evolving from sixteen harddrives, which are orchestrated through simple power circuits. By cutting the harddisk's power in varying sequences and amplifying the peculiar sound characteristics of each drive, an unpredictable acoustic and visual interplay is taking place."

"DESCRIPTION
Defective harddisks are collected from different PC shops, companies and institutions in the exhibition's local area. Each harddrive's casing is being removed and a special sound pickup is mounted on the drive's read head and connected to a sound mixer.

As soon as a drive recieves power, it conducts an initialization procedure with the heads moving in a specific pattern and generating sounds. These patterns vary throughout different manufactors, models, production series, firmware versions and the disk's history. The drives of the exhibit are placed within several individually controllable power circuits using interval switched power supplies. "

It sounds well weird, but its very interesting stuff...

This is another link to another kind of "home made" music made from getting sounds from public places and mixing them, creating a very complex sound:

Its pretty weird but kewl...

:-S Thats just well...crazy...

As much as its interesting, how they came up with that ( :S )..
But..

Sounds like nothing..... really..
Maybe from the 'old'n days' when my mum was young those record player's that had those massive vinle(sp) 'thingys' to put on and it would be all scrachy but i mean the hard drives sound sounds much like that i dunno,

I wanna see the videos!!

edit ~ just asked my mum, the turn tables, with the needle and the huge black vinle(sp) anyways.....
