RootKits

These wicked "tools" are often overlooked, and are a bigger problem than a virus due to the nature of them. A nice long thread about these nasty buggers would be a good idea, and good learning experience for some of the more entry level techs/computer junkies.

lol i wasnt directly refering to the Sony rootkits, but yes, prime example right there.

How about you PM me the words you want describing a root kit and I'll add it to one of the locked stickies in the security section.

Remember, keep it leagal and free of any information about actual hacking, just rootkits, their purpose, what they can, (and can't) do, and most importantly how to get rid of them.

Is there any scanners out there? - I can remember i used to have a program, cannot remmeber what it was called, but i think it searched for something along the lines of a RootKit.

If you think you have the Song RootKit, Ad-aware have an excellent tool to remove it!
