Applying a 40-bit passphrase

Well, let's give you the details...

1. I'm using the 2Wire Homeportal
2. I'm currently using a 10-char 64-bit WEP encryption
3. The only available options via the homeportal cp is 64-bit and 128-bit.

I want a 40-bit passphrase, but don't know how to apply it, as it is not an option in my cp.

why would you want a 40-bit passphrase

didnt mean that in a disrespectfull response, was just curious as to why you would want to go to a lower encryption strength had it been possible

oh ok gotcha, never heard of any system running 40-bit. is it using WEP or WPK?

The 64 bit IS 40 bit.

In WEP a 24 bit IV is appended to a 40 bit key, 40+24=64, so it is CALLED 64 bit WEP, even though the key size is 40 bits.
