broadband use's only part of its available bandwidth/channels for data transfer. Cable internet is an example of broadband. DSL is refered to as baseband, it uses all channels available to it but its limited in speed just like cable by the ISP. cable is capable of data transfer of over 10MB/s down and up. depending on the bin file associated with the account.(bin file controlls all settings such as bandwidth and is stored in the modem as firmware)
