Choosing Classes

Yup, It's that time of year again lol (atleast for my school)

I gotta pick what classes im taking for next year tommorow. I have to pick 8 classes, 4 are required, then I got 4 electives Math, Science, English, History, You know the drill lol

Well I got a problem, Maybe I should explain it a bit.

One of my options for my classes is that I could choose to go to this vocational school that takes up 4 of my class periods (half the day, year long)

The two choices you get to choose are Cisco Certification, or A+/Network+

The classes for the public cost like 900 dollars each, but if I take them during highschool my school pays for everything, even transportation daily lol So I would get certified in whichever I pick by the end for free.

Supposedly I can make more money with Cisco Networking, But I already have plans of taking A+ Certification test soon ($250) and I dont have the money for it. This would be free but unchallenging

What would you do in my situation? Should I go with A+ or Cisco? I'm leaning towards Cisco and just coughing up the cash for the other lol I could do this, or choose to just pick four seperate classes and forget about the certification (Id end up taking something like Web Design, Computer Graphics, Programming, TV Production..), But then again, unchallenging.. =\

I dont know, Looking for advice, I just dont know what to do >_<

Go for the challenging courses. Always. Trust me, you have a better opportunity working with Telecomm/Networking than just a PC technician. Plus, the money is much, much higher than a lowly computer specialist. Everyone knows how to troubleshoot computer problems and fix them, well, at least most people these days. Networking actually takes skills.

Hella funny, our school did that today...... And yea, I'm going on the Cisco pathway...... I ws going to make a thread about it.. That's really wierd. Do you really live in FLorida? I live in Northern California.. I'm a freshman.

Yep, I plan on getting these courses too. As well and my Computer Techie and the MSCE diploma I want.

id go with the cisco, that one sounds better... and you already know the A+, might as well pay out for the A+, do the cisco through your school, and end up with both qualifications in the end... rember... the more bits of paper saying you can do things the better

You'll have more of an oppertunity to get A+ Certified than you will to find a free course of Cisco (trust me on this). My rule of classes is I always challange myself, because the harder you work now, the less you'll have to work later.

I had a lot of fun enrolled in the Cisco Academy program. There are 4 semesters total for the CCNA program. You work in teams. That was the fun part. The boring part was the lecture and the reading. There's a lot of hands on you do in the labs. You setup everything from switches to routers. They'll teach you about VLANs, how to apply filters (Access Lists-I hate that the most. Too hard) and tons other stuff that doesn't come to mind. Take it with some of your friends who are serious about this program. You'll learn heaps if you guys learn and work together.

Yeah, I was wanting to do it with friends but I dont have any with my specific interest around me. (that are still going to be in my school next year atleast) But hey, I work good with others lol

Thanks for the advice guys, set my mind at ease. I'm going to go with Cisco

A+ cert classes are good also, but it's so common and you pretty much know more than half of it by heart, and the rest just need a little reviewing. Cisco on the other hand is foreign to most people. Lol, at work, we had to send all the IT guys for Cisco training in Arizona. When they come back, they learn the same knowledge you will have learned through that CCNA program.
