I think its a good idea, it will make searching for the more usual help needs a lot easier, and may even prevent some of the more repetitive questions. I would be handy to have the guides readily available, so if you encounter something you could check there first, if its not then you know then that you can ask your question.

Bumping a thread is bringing it back to the top (new posts) so it can be seen again.

I think this is a wonderful idea and I'd be interested in writing guides for several things.
