Explorer Screwing up

Ok so I use Windows 98 on an old computer, I can use the internet explorer, but when I open something like My Computer or My Documents, it freezes after a few seconds and the explorer completely closes down (the taskbar at the bottom disappears) sometimes internet explorer flips out a little bit and freezes the computer too. I know I should just reinstall Windows but everytime I do my computer goes apeshit insane so Id rather NOT do that if thats possible.

Any idea what it might be?

I used Adware, Spybot, Spyblaster, and Stinger and got ride of all the adware and spyware on my cpmputer and blocked everything bad.

Still does it.

Ok so I figured out I have that damn Blackworm/amaena.com pop-up thing on my computer and it's a pain to get rid of. Could that be fucking up my explorer?

Also, I started the computer today and it says it's missing a file in it's library and cant start RUNDLL. But eventually Windows started up. Sometimes it doesn't though and the Explorer never starts up. It's slowing down a lot and things are getting screwy. I need help ASAP.

Also, I found 2 things in my System folder: Tasklist.com, Taskkill.com both created recently (as in arbitratily a month ago) what do these files do? A site somewhere told me it was spyware. Additionally, I see a task running called Osa9 that i have to close manually and the computer says it's not responding usually. Same with something called gxlib, but I suspect that has to do with limewire.

I know I sound like a moron, but I don't download random things or sign up for bullshit smiley scams. I'm not a 1337 h4x0r but I do have some computer sense. I'm just having trouble fixing this problem and I have a feeling it's malware eating my computer to bits.

Why not do a reinstall of 98?

That would fix everything, what are the specs of the computer?

ok Im going to post it on the hijack this website but if anyone could give me their opinion here

yeah I went on that site and deleted everything, retsart the computer. Open internet explorer. BAM, pop up about the "beagle" virus, telling me to download their BS malware. ARGHG

I tried that thing called "VundoFix" but it wont run on my computer.
