xp home to pro (activation problem)

ok, i'm starting to see these messages to activate windows when i start my computer. I click, yes, then it says its already activated. right now, i have home. I had pro on before for a while, then for some reason i decided to go back to home. anyway, i figured that if i can upgrade to pro, will it get rid of this problem. with pro it never asked to activate it. and if i do upgrade to pro, will my programs be lost. the pro cd i have only has sp1. my home edition has sp2. if i go to pro with the cd, will it automatically leave sp2 or somehow downgrade to sp1. i have a sp2 cd, but i was just wondering. if i do not upgrade, what will happen after 6 days (time left to activate).

Well now, I have 5 days left. When I try to click 'yes' to activate, it just logs me on and doesn't even bring up the activation screen. Is this good?
