Many of you say System of a Down, and yet you listen to bands like greenday? I just don't get that. . .
Go from American Idiot, oops sorry, that's "new" greenday.
*clears throat*Some Old greenday, whatever that's supposed to mean, then straight to needles by SOAD? I just don't see that happenning.
Now I say you can like some SOAD, mostly their newer stuff. . . But I just don't see how many of you can be a true SOAD fan. . .

Sellouts, you say your band isn't one?
Bill Hicks, used a term "sucking Satan's", not gonna mention the rest. . . to describe musical acts who make bland music to maximise sales, or allow their music to be used in advertising.
Now, I have tried listning to your music, I can't stand it. . . It all sounds to much the same, aka. BLAND(recognize that from above?)

Here is something the music video for the song "Yall want a single" by Korn points out, bold is a part of the sellout meaning. . .

Britney Spears Last Video Cost $1,000,000.
This Korn Video Costs $150,000.
You Have Seen $48,000 Worth Of Video.
Will Any Music Channel Play This Video?
The Music "Industry" Releases 100 Songs Per Week.
Only 4 Songs Are Added To The Average Radio "Playlist" Each Week.
Hit Songs On TOP 40 Are Often REPEATED Over 100 Times A Week.

Is That All You Want To Hear?

I think not!
And yet you do. . .
Just the other day, I was watching MTV, the song Wake me up when september ends or whatever was playing. . . I switchted to MTV2 as soon as it was over. . . same song, was like "Whatever. . ." and watched it. After that was over, I turned to FUSE - guess what? The same song was on!

Now, how bout stop listning to your emo and punk rock bands, and listen to the other 96 songs not played on the radio. . . listen to other songs other then the top 40.
Btw, want something different? There is an AWSOME band called Tribal Machine. I have never heard anything like them before. Very unique. Check 'em out! http://www.myspace.com/tribalmachine

Now, let me get to my poser point. I think it is closely related.
You all listen to these "sell out" bands. Why? Because they're big, what's cool. You listen to them because the media tell you to, every one is listning to them.
Remember those 96 songs not added a week? Start listning to those. If you say you like slipknot, and the only songs you mention are Before I forget or Duality, one of those. . . I'm gonna call you a poser. Those are the songs that are "big". If you say you're an emo fan, greenday fan, one of those. . . those are the bands that are "big", so I'm gonna call you a poser too!
One thing I laugh at, the song American Idiot was HUGE. Everyone listened to it. Some started calling it a "poser" song. A few started listning to "old" greenday and calling new greenday sellouts and posers, then the MASSES moved towards old greenday, and did the same. Poserish? Huh, that's what I thought.

I do understand that some people aren't that big in the music. They will only listen to what's big, because well. . . it's on. That's fine. This is mostly aimed towards those who go "OMG OMG OMG OMG! MUSIC IS MA LIFE! <33MUSIC<33 @->---MUSIC@->---. am I cool now? OMG OLD GREENDAY IS THE BEST! I LOVE EMO! EMO EMO EMO!"
Yeah, half of the bullitens on myspace are pretty much that. . . Wow they get annoying.

Now, please don't take any of this personally, and flame me out. These are my personnal oppinnions.
Be yourself, explore the music genres. If I call you a poser, I'm just referrencing to all above.

Well, Some people just don't explore they're musical choices and usally just listen to what everbody else listens to because they jsut enjoy listening to music, but they may not be all into music. I myself am a huge Jazz fan. I listen to awsome artists such as Brecker Brothers, Cassandra Wilson, Jaco Pastorius and more... but this is probably the first time you've ever heard of them. I just don't like to think of people as sell outs, they listen to what they like, and they like what ever they want too, and thats completely fine. Sure, bands these days are trying they're best too make as much money as possible, but if you were a member in one of these bands, can you honestly say you wouldn't try and make as much as you can?

Chris

I stated your first point there. I havn't heard any of those artists, you're right, but I'm not into Jazz.
Yes, they are trying to make as much money as they can. And it's not really the bands fault their fans are like this way over them. This isn't really aimed towards the bands themelves, but at the music industry, media, and the "fan's" desire to be cool, and in with the crowd. I guess sell out wouldn't be the best word, as I'm mostly aiming towards the "fans". And I'm not aiming this at every fan of greenday and "old" greenday either. I'm just trying to explain my frustration of the average high school, where being cool is the importance - you must listen to this and dress this way to be cool, cause I'm not like that. And that fact repeaditly gets thrown into my face.

I listen to linkin park, greenday, eminem, d12, then some other groups like SPM and stuff. Frankly i'll listen to anything at least once. I don't listen to korn and stuff because I don't like the heavy metal stuff.

Ok. . . Have to say this. . . haha, while on this topic.
Check out the songs Danger - Keep Away by Slipknot. It's not heavy, I promise. . . yet is really great.
And that Tribal Machine is about as heavy as Nine Inch Nails, I'd say. If TM had to sound like any band, it'd be NIN.

All of those suck...list of bands that don't suck:

The Planet Smashers
Slow Gherkin
The Aquabats
Less than Jake...
NOT Sublime.

Woah woah woah. It's a matter of opinion. I never said I disprove of some bands. Don't smash other bands just because you don't like them. You have your own opinion. This wasn't a thread on what bands are good and what aren't.

Hmmm...
I have every greenday album, including the lesser known 1039 smoothed out slappy hours (released 1991. I've been listening to greenday since they first made albums. thats longer than some of you here have been born. (in fact anyone under 15!!
and I'd go as far as saying anyone under 18 as well, since I don't think you can realistically indicate preference at such an early age.

I also have al the system of a down albums... guess what< I started listening to them before they were more mainstream as well...

In addition to this, I've seen both those bands live,

How can I like both System AND Greenday...
well, for the same reason I also own a whole load of reggae albums, as well as a lot of Motown albums, I have Korn albums. sex pistols. rage against the machine, nirvana, queen, foo fighters, black sabbath, offspring, and a whole host of jungle music albums, eminem albums -though only the first two, (the list is too long to actually go through).

I have diverse tastes! (do you have a problem with that?)
it's not that I can't decide on a particular genre of music, or a particular band... I just like a lot of stuff and want to listen to different stuff depending on my mood.

the things that really tick me off is people like yourself who seem to believe that if a band is on the TV then they've somehow sold out and are crap because of it...
I make money from my job, why can't these bands? if you sell cars you make profit, well what if you sell bands?

At the end of the day the people that listen to whatevers popular are the ones that are literally just listening to music and thiniking that they like a particular tune or album rather than an band, back catlaogue and all future works!

I believe people that pigeon hole themselves into a particular genre of music, say only listening to slipknot, and system, they are the real sell outs. if you say you just like a band like that...

take Arials by system of a down and compare that to violent pornography by the same band, they are massivly different! and there are other bands, both big and small that play simillar.
saying that you like only one genre kind of excludes you from liking bands that play across more than one srely?

So what exactly is the general consensus here? That being a poser is something taboo? I say stop caring about what other people listen to, and if fact, be grateful that there are posers in this world because it is those people who make new bands have the desire to enter the market and try to make some money from them. The people who only enjoy the mainstream music are the ones who are paying these music artists' wages. If there was no incentive to become more than a garage band then music would cease to exist on any level more than that.
