In a little perdicament...help?

Ok, I'm in a little situation. I want to upgrade my PC, however, I'm not really sure what to get. I need only four things, maybe five. I need...

• A new Motherboard
• A new Processor
• A new Video Card
• And new RAM
• And possibly a new Hard Drive

Now, I definetly want to go with an Intel Processor, because once Conroe comes out I'm definetly buying it. And I don't want to wait 3 more months to make the switch to DDR2 once Socket AM2 comes out. So, with that said, I have NO idea what I should do.

I was thinking of buying a Pentium 4 630 Prescott, or an 805 Pentium D Smithfield. The Pentium D 805 Smithfield is cheaper, plus, it's Dual-Core. So I'm not to sure what to buy in terms of the CPU.

Also, I want to get a PCI-Express video card, preferably ATI. I was thinking of an ATI Radeon X850XT, although I may end up purchasing an X1600PRO 512MB. This is still in debate though.

One thing I definetly am getting is DDR2 memory! I was thinking of this...

Because it seems reliable, it's cheap, and it's a Dual-Channel kit.


I don't want to go Balls-Out on this upgrade, because once Conroe comes out I'll probably have to purcahse a new mothboard, because I don't think that there's any Conroe-Ready motherboards out there...


So, I come to you guys. I've put together many possibilities, about 7 or so machines, however, I want to know if you guys can come up with something better! Also, if anyone knows of a Conroe-Ready motherboard, please, use it(!) regardless of price!

I want this system to be no more then $400, although, I'm willing to go to a maximum of $450. Liek I said, I just want this new system to give me DDR2 memory, and PCI-Express. And please, DO NOT suggest an AMD system to me. I do not want to go with an AMD system, because right noe they do not offer any platform using DDR2 memory, that is until June 6th, which for me is to long of a wait. So, let's see what you guys can bring to the table!

since u deffinately want ddr2 memory i would wait until june 6 because thats not to long and the comp u have now isnt to bad at all, im pretty sure conroe is going to be a 775pin cpu so any 775 socket motherboard will support it and will probably only need a bios flash

Well, I don't want to go with a Socket AM2 board. Because it's going to cost a WHOLE lot of money.

And yes, Conroe is going to use the Socket T board. Intel announced that during the IDF just recently.

Why? Because this is a dual core processor. Cheap, yet effective. I love the 630. Its the processor I own. I would definetly reccomend it. Although, your going to upgrade it soon. So, their is no point in getting it. It would be a waste of money, for the amount of time that you would use it, before you get a Conroe processor.

Why? Because, with that its still the socket T. And thats what the Conroe is going to run off of. Because Intel isnt going to change their socket type for a long time. And its up to 4gb ram. Its a good mobo. Id say get the cheaper one.

2gb Corsair value ram. Because at 2gb ram, windows turns off the page file. And you know what that is.. And if you dont. The page file is ram, on the hard drive.

HIS x1600xt. Now here is the thing with this card is that its got 12 pixple pipe lines, with a 600mhz core. But this card..

HIS x800xl, has a 400mhz core with 16 pixple pipelines. I personally think the x800 is better, because, you will fully utilize the speed with all those pipelines.

I don't need a new computer altogether. I have everything I want as of right now. I just want to upgrade to DDR2 and PCI-Express.

Which makes me also wonder. Should I upgrade to just a better AGP card and more RAM, and a better hard drive ( WD Raptor ) or buy all this other stuff?

Buy the other stuff. Because you have the crap now.. And then you have to totally upgrade when the Conroe comes out. But think.. What if you cant get it all maybe you wont have enough money. Buy it now while you can afford it. And then be almost assured the Conroe in the future, because its only one pruchase.
