Recently the hardrive failed on my laptop so I bought a cable that converts the 2.5 drive to a normal desktop 3.5 IDE interface with the idea of putting it in my other pc as a slave so I could recover the data from it.

The problem is, is that I put one end in the 2.5 drive then I am left with a female connector on the other end. Now the IDE cable only has female connections on the end. I can't connect two female connectors! Am I doing this wrong or is the cable I got incorrect???

You may need a female to male connector to put on your cable. You probably have the right cable, but you may need a connector.
