Any OS out there you can use straight from External HDD?

Well..got a crappy p2 here, and I want to set it up for bro so he can go online, so is there an OS out there, any at all, lite if possible, that can boot from external HDD as if it was just booting from internal HDD?

Try knoppix you download it then burn it to a cd then you can boot the OS right form hte cd or
