I am looking to gut my old computer for parts, and I was wondering something.

Is that the processor? If so, how would I go about removing it?

No, that looks like the chipset maybe. The thing with the fan on it is the processor. You don't remove chipsets. What exactly are you trying to do with these parts?

Oh, I am COMPLETELY new to assembling computers an i just want to try to make a workable computer from (almost) scratch.

I also want to get the old CD-R drive out of that old computer and put it in my new computer.

What LukeD said, thats the chipset, the CPU is under the large block with a fan on it.

cool sounds like fun... The CD drive is no biggie as long as its IDE which I am sure it is. And if you want the old processor than you should do some research on how to install and remove processors. I would give you alink but Im a currently running tests on my newly overclocked CPU. HAHA.. If you need any more help let me know.

The one with the fan is the processor. it is easily removable too.

The thing you pointed is the northbridge chipset.
