yes, but they max out around the same speed, roughly 2.7Ghz. Having a higher FSB compared to multiplier will yield higher performance. So to get 2.7Ghz, its 270x10 for the 3800+ or 246x11 for the 4200+. In this case, the 3800+ will perform better than the 4200+. But if you are going to lower the multiplier on the 4200+ to get a higher FSB, then might as well buy a 3800+ right?
 
So it's preferable to raise the FSB than the mulitplier? It seems like the 3800+ will be doing more work to get there, which may result in getting better cooling perhaps. Now what about a 4400+ X2? How high do those things max out at?
 
a 4400+ will also max out around 2.7Ghz, 2.9 if you are lucky. You just get the extra cache thats all. some people think its worth it, others dont.
